Fundação Arte e Cultura has been awarded 2nd place in the General Classification of the 2025 National Literacy Award with the project “Alfabetizar a Ilha de Luanda” (“Literacy for Luanda Island”), created in 2021 and implemented within the Luanda Island community.
The award ceremony, promoted by the Ministry of Education, took place on November 22,2025.
National recognition for impactful initiatives
The National Literacy Award, coordinated by the Education Program for Youth and Adults (EJA), recognizes innovative and effective projects that contribute to the prevention and reduction of illiteracy in Angola.
The ceremony brought together government representatives, public and private institutions, civil society organizations, and individuals who actively contribute to the country’s educational development. Strengthening institutional commitment This distinction reinforces the importance of Fundação Arte e Cultura’s work in inclusive education, community training, and social transformation through art.
Since 2021, the project has already provided literacy education to around 600 people aged 15 and above, promoting autonomy, citizenship, and dignity within the community. The Foundation’s Pedagogical Coordinator emphasized the significance of the recognition: “This second place represents a great acknowledgment from the State, as we have been strong partners. This title shows that the government has been following our work and intends to continue counting on us in the noble mission of eradicating illiteracy. It is a gift to the Foundation’s leadership, which tirelessly works to raise the quality of our programs. It is also a prize for our literacy educators who, every week, despite many challenges, find in resilience and love for our students the true secret of perseverance.” The Foundation highlights the dedication of its trainers, volunteers, institutional partners, and community members who make the ongoing growth of the project possible. A recognition that strengthens the Foundation’s mission. Winning 2nd place nationwide marks an important milestone for Fundação Arte e Cultura, reinforcing its commitment to promoting impactful, human-centered, and transformative initiatives in literacy and community development.
